White Pine County, Nevada is one of the few remote areas left in the United States. With a small population of about 10000 people and over half a million acres of wilderness, the area is perfect for enjoyment of clean air and solitude. Our rural way of life and clean environment is now being threatened by two monster coal power plants. Sierra Pacific has proposed a 2500 MW coal plant and LS power is close to the final public EIS hearing on a 1500 MW plant.

This site is our way of crying out for help. We are a group of several dozen locals who are highly concerned that this plant will fundamentally change our way of life. Our chief concerns are with the level of emissions these plants will put out and the extreme amount of water they will have to use.

Key points:
-Sierra Pacific says their plant will need over 5 BILLION Gallons of water a year

-LS Power already has water right for over 8 BILLION Gallons of water a year

-This water will be taken from local springs and groundwater

-Coal emissions include CO2, Nitrogen Oxides, Sulfur Dioxide, Mercury and many other pollutants

Please read on for more information and join the Bristlecone Alliance in expressing concern over this. Please see our Events page for upcoming meetings on both power plant proposals, and register at our Forum page to become part of our discussion.
